Why is Outlook giving notifications for password?

We are asking for multiple times the question that we are asking our community members about Outlook for the credentials, this problem can be caused by numerical reasons. Below is a list of the most common causes of this problem:

  •     Outlook is configured to notify you of credentials
  •     Cached wrong password in the credential storage
  •     Required authentication settings for outgoing server and incoming server
  •     Outlook Anywhere is not configured to use NTLM authentication
  •     Corrupted Outlook Profiles
  •     Slow or unstable network connection
  •     Antivirus Program
  •     Shared Calendar

    Outlook is configured to notify you of credentials

    If you are using an Exchange account, to always indicate for logon credentials, to find out if your Outlook profile has a setting, please follow:

    1. In Outlook 213, go to File tab> Info> Account Settings> Account Settings …

    2. Highlight your Exchange account and click the Change button.

    3. Click the More Settings button.

    4. Select the Security tab.

    5. Make sure there is no “Always prompt for logon credentials” option under user identification.

    If you use other types of emails, please make sure the “Remember password” option is selected.

    Cached incorrectly incorrectly cached in Credential Manager

    Your Windows system stores user credentials on your computer. If cached credentials are incorrect, you will be prompted for a password. This problem was generally followed by changing the password for your domain user account. Before changing your password, you saved your credentials. When you enable random reminders in your reminders, archived credentials are not over-protected after Outlook triggers authentication notifications.

    To fix this problem, you need to remove the corrupted credit, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Credential Manager.

    Note If the view is set to a category, then first click on user accounts, and then click Credential Manager.

    2. Find the set of trusted names named Outlook.

    3. Click the name to expand the suite of credentials, and then click Remove from Vault.

    Repeat step 3 for any additional set credentials that have a word outlook on the name.

    Required authentication settings for outgoing server and incoming server

    Different email providers may require different authentication settings. Please make sure that you have set the server settings correctly. You can contact your email provider to collect information.

    Generally, we select the “Require my outgoing server (SMTP) authentication” option and the first bullet “Use the same settings as my incoming mail server”.

    Additionally, click the advanced tab and check that you have entered the correct server port number and select the correct encrypt type. Below is a screenshot for an IMAP account:

  • Outlook Anywhere is not configured to use NTLM authentication
  •  When you work outside your organization’s firewall, Outlook now allows you to remotely access your Exchange Account from the Internet.
  •  When using Outlook to connect to your Exchange Server nowhere, we must choose the authentication method for basic authentication, NTLM authentication and Negotiation Authentication. Password is the way to send them when connecting to the server. With basic authentication, a password is sent in clear text.

Using NTLM authentication reduces password alerts.To check authentication settings, please go to File> Account Settings> Account Settings, select Exchange Account and then click Change. In the Account Change Wizard, click More Settings, and then click the Connection tab. Click the Exchange Proxy Settings button and now, you can see the settings under Proxy Authentication Settings. Try changing the authentication for NTLM authentication and then check the issue again.
